Ukraine-Russia, from Independence to Invasion

August 24 marks six months since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, but also marks the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s declaration of independence.
Recall that in July 1991 Boris Yeltsin banned the communist party throughout the territory of Russia, consequently, on August 24, 1991, the congress declared the independence of Ukraine, establishing the country as an independent and democratic state.

Putin, the hawks and Great Russia

On August 14, a car bomb killed 29-year-old Daria Dugina, daughter of Aleksander Dugin, who was part of Putin’s “hawks,” who summed up the Kremlin’s thinking in one sentence: “Only after restore Great Russia, meaning the Eurasian Union, we can become a credible global player.”

The philosophy of thought is “Eurasianism”, proposed by the Russian hawks, whose ideological base is the Eurasian Union or Eurasian Economic Community, considering “Eurasia” as a distinct civilization, which must forge a state that encompasses the continent, following the lines of his old empire, but without the communist ideology.

For the hawks, the territorial struggle is based on promoting a vision of a resurgent Russia, whose main enemy is the world that surrounds the Atlantic Ocean, led by the United States and the European Union and NATO.

The recently assassinated Daria Dugina argued in a forthcoming book that it is actually a war between civilizations, where Ukraine is the spearhead of Western plans to gain control of Mother Russia. According to the main Russian TV presenter: “Russia was invited to join Western society for dinner, not as a guest, but as a dish”, this statement was made in front of Steven Seagal, once a star of martial arts, born in the United States. States and now a Russian citizen, who drives the Kremlin narrative.

To nuclear plant from Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, located on the banks of the Dnipro river, along the front lines of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Ukrainian army controls the west bank, while the Russians are entrenched around the plant on the east bank of the river.

When Russian forces took control in early March, a fierce firefight with Ukrainian troops sparked a fire that raised global alarm over the risks of a catastrophic radiation leak, when a Russian shell hit reactor No.1, without damaging it. thanks to its thick walls. Since August 11, the bombardments in areas near the nuclear complex have intensified, both sides accuse each other of it, increasing the risk of a large-scale nuclear accident.

Death and desolation

While the political, economic and philosophical discussion takes place, thousands of innocent people, Ukrainians and Russians, die on the battlefield, in the occupied cities and towns, for six months the Ukrainian peoples have endured attacks and destruction, to their foundations, increasing hunger and diseases, which are decimating the population, the continuation of this war is causing a humanitarian and food crisis throughout the world.
